Mystics, Sensual, Contemplatives - Quoting a work of the painter Carlo Carrà, Metodo-Milano wants to give tribute to this great example of freedom, to the possibility of rethinking ourselves. Sometimes by changing direction abruptly. reversing the terms of the speech, it is directly proportional to the urgency of exhibiting a certain pictorial research, tangible in the practice of the artists presented here. On the other hand, the critical question has been outsourced from Elementi di critica omosessuale, 1977, by Mario Mieli (1952-1983) a crucial essay in his oeuvre. advocate of the liberation of innate pansexualism in every person and precursor of queer theories. More than forty years later, the new ways of conceiving - and living - the queer, dictated by the frenetic rhythms of contemporaneity and by the technological development, have necessarily led to a relocation of the related concepts of gender, identity, sexuality in toto, as well as their intertwined relationships. Because of its innumerable metamorphoses, it therefore proposes to investigate new possible exegeses, among which to move and to cling to.
"I keep my treasure in my ass, but my ass is open to everyone …"
Starting from this provocative solicitation by Mieli, the artists propose their own interpretation of a certain figurative imagery intersectable with his words and his reflections, very current. The result is a work that goes well with the spatial matrix of Method, which, going beyond the site-specific, imagines new exhibition possibilities and transversal fruition experiences. Going through this long tunnel means to self-determine its - and therefore that of each - non-binary nature, which is timelessly in the making, having a very precise beginning, but not an end, and therefore for this reason it allows for its umpteenth polymorphic value. The multiple set-up possibilities, due to the nature of the tunnel, are therefore symptomatic to underline the experience of crossing, understood as in the dense and primordial Latin lemma trans (through, after) which denotes an unfinished state of the matter. Same question, which has a double meaning: as in pictorial research, so in spasmodic gender quest.
ABOUT
Metodo Milano is an Unconventional Visual Art Space open to sharing and experimenting in contemporary artist practices. Its name is inspired by construction techniques for urban galleries. The space, a real tunnel that connects two streets is located inside a garage. Artists from national and International territory are invited to create works born in close contact with a space with a strong character. The idea stems from a need of the artist Maurizio Bongiovanni to create a meeting point in the city of Milan. The space is happy to evaluate artistic projects and collaboration.
